SYNOPSIS
The mission of Ten Thousand Villages (TTV) is to create opportunities for artisans in developing countries to earn income by bringing their products and stories to our markets through long-term fair-trading relationships. The TTV Retail Sales Associate will primarily assist in front-of-house duties such as sales and customer service. A key element of this position is embodying the beliefs, values, and mission of MCC engaging with constituents, partners, customers, or the public.

This is a part-time, hourly position with required day shifts on Fridays and Saturdays weekly. Normal hours will be 12 hours per week, including some weekend and evening activities related to special events. Availability to cover Manager absences and additional shifts especially during the busy seasons (most notably Christmas/inventory/special events) is required. This position is accountable to the Ten Thousand Villages Manager.

Required
-Knowledge and a strong commitment to the mission of Ten Thousand Villages and the principles of fair trade
-Experience and/or training in retail sales, particularly in a volunteer team environment
-Demonstrated excellence in customer service à Relate well to people with a pleasant and professional demeanour
-Good organizational and time management skills to complete tasks independently
-Good English skills (verbal, writing, and reading)
-Basic computer literacy
-Aptitude for numbers and capable of operating sales equipment (POS system, credit card machines)
-Ability to lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs.) on occasion

Desired
-Working knowledge of various social media platforms for marketing and online sales operations is an asset
-Heart for social justice, peacemaking, and global understanding
