Chantal Desloges – Law Firm Principal/Senior Lawyer
Chantal Desloges is certified by the Law Society of Ontario as a Specialist in both Citizenship/Immigration law and Refugee law. Her practice encompasses primarily family sponsorships, humanitarian applications, refugee cases, citizenship applications, inadmissibility, residency obligation issues, plus appeals and Judicial Reviews of refused cases.
She was called to the Bar in 1999. She now leads her own law firm, numbering 11 people, headquartered in downtown Toronto.
Chantal also currently sits as a part-time adjudicator on the Consent and Capacity Board, since October, 2021.
She taught Immigration Law at Osgoode Hall Law School in 2000/2001 and at Seneca College from 1999 – 2010. She currently teaches part-time at Queens Law School.
In 2012, Chantal was awarded the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal, followed by the Queen's Platinum Jubilee Medal in 2022. From 2013-2019, Chantal was appointed by the Minister of Justice to serve on the Federal Court Rules Committee. From 2014-2018, Chantal served on the Executive of the Canadian Bar Association, Immigration Section.
Chantal and her colleague Cathryn Sawicki co-author a law book called Canadian Immigration and Refugee Law: A Practitioner's Handbook. The book is a top-selling legal text now in its 4th edition. They also co-produce a podcast about immigration called "Welcome Home".
Chantal has been called upon more than 20 times by Parliamentary and Senate Committees to appear as an expert witness on immigration, human rights, and refugee issues.
Chantal is a regular immigration commentator in Canadian national and local media.
