The economy is shifting. Culture is pushing back and somewhere between the quarterly numbers and Sunday service, it gets easy to feel like you’re carrying it alone.

But Jesus said occupy until I come.

So how do you build a business that works, make time to disciple and share the gospel, raise your family well, and stay who you are while the pressure is on?

What if your forty hour work week isn’t a detour from the mission? But a part of the point?

Most of us spend more waking hours at work than anywhere else. More time with our staff than with our small group. More conversations with customers in a month than we’ll have at church in a year.

And a lot of the people in those rooms don’t know we’re believers. Not because we’re hiding it but because there’s never been a natural moment, and for some maybe nobody ever taught you how.

Here’s a few numbers I’ve been thinking about: C12 estimates the average small business touches more than 5,000 people a year through employees, their families, customers, vendors, and suppliers. Wheaton puts it closer to 7,000, with roughly 70% of them unchurched.

That’s the size of a congregation walking past your desk! And most of them are never going to walk into a sanctuary.

What if the mission field for some of us isn’t overseas?
What if it’s the shop, the office, the job site, the place where we meet the brokenness of the world every single day, in people who would never open a church door?

As Paul wrote, “Whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”
(1 Corinthians 10:31).

We’re not Christians who happen to run businesses. For many of us, this is the ministry. Some are behind the pulpit while others are building widgets and teams.

I built this room because I needed it first.

I was the one sitting in the parking lot after working with an incredible client, wondering why that triumph didn’t feel the same any more. I had the dream career but something was missing. I wasn’t bringing my whole self into my work and I didn’t know how.

The first time we gathered, 100 people showed up. Maybe out of curiosity but also out of sheer relief.

Something surprising that I didn’t expect? The best parts of that day wasn’t the talks. They were the conversations between them, and a room that size makes those hard to have.

So we’re going smaller not bigger. 75 seats for on purpose, intimate conversations.

The gap we’re here to close: Gallup’s latest numbers: 67% of Americans say they have confidence in small business. 33% say the same about the church. More than two to one.

Barna found something else. More than 73% of adults believe churches and entrepreneurs could work together to strengthen their communities. But only 17% of pastors feel equipped to actually guide an entrepreneur.
